Alexandros is A CREATOR AND SHAPER OF VISIONS. He is a polymath and a creative craftsman with a professional life that tranverses a diverse field of experience and applications.
He devises compositions that form or dissolve our understanding of reality by altering their impression, expression or physical manifestations. Varied in scale, calibre and medium, these compositions have materialised as two and three dimensional completed artworks and new ones can be created on commission.
This body of work is rooted in a rich background that involves a little town up on the mountains, mathematics, computers, architecture, social struggle, rituals, restoration, airships, the legendary United Visual Artists, extensive travelling, bibliophilia.
After a decade at UVA, Alexandros now operates as an individual and also works with a diverse range of collaborators and organisations.
Below is a more detailed outline of his past and present.
Since 2007, Alexandros was operating within the art collective United Visual Artists and its design division Another Space. In addition, since 2011, he co-founded OVERCRAFT, an initiative with optics doctorate and electronic engineer George Konstantinou, which offers creative and technical consultation for other artists and designers. The earlier years of Alexandros' professional career included contemporary architectural and urban projects, synthesis and design, tutoring, visualisation, programming and architectural restoration.
Studies in Architecture provided a strong basis of understanding and creating artworks of various forms and scales; from a sheet of paper or an object to a structure, a situation or a synthetic environment, while his intention has always been to bring the individual and/or audience into a state of suspension and escapism.
Alexandros has experimented with, and extensively utilised the medium of light in many forms or substances as well as other expressive media such as kinetic systems, acoustics and atmosphere, alongside a wide range of materials employed at object, human or architectural scale.
His skills evolved through practise to bring together a theoretical background, analytical thinking and structural implementation of ideas. An amalgamation of aesthetics and technological integration shapes his perspective that understands the expectations, parameters and complex requirements of every project.
During the course of his career, Alexandros have worked and collaborated with(in) major cultural institutions including Barbican, Royal Academy of Arts, Southbank Centre, National Maritime Museum, Towner Gallery, YCAM, United Nations, Fondation Cartier, La Gaite Lyrique, Paris Opéra, Fundacao Bienal Sao Paolo, Opera North and others. Working with these large and impressive organisations revealed an interest and ability to comfortably undertake remarkable briefs and create unique environments and artworks.
Alongside arts and culture, Alexandros worked across the commercial or private sector to devise innovative ephemeral creations. Google, Nike, Virgin, BMW, Hermes, are just a few of the clients for whom he developed significant projects.
Alexandros has delivered talks and lectures for various audiences in high profile public and private institutions, often asked to deliver his perspective on a topic through examples of practise and theory.
His current work encompasses 15 years in the field of emerging contemporary art that utilises technologically-infused conceptualisation, formation or realisation.
