The Random Walks: Series Seven
-
From the twisting, smoke filled clouds, blood rained down.
MIDNIGHT TIDES, STEVEN ERIKSON
#1

The series is based on an on-going investigation of form, as depicted by (post-)Impressionism,
expressed via novel and contemporary techniques.
The Impressionist technique of the past employed a repetitive sequence of brush stokes to deliver an overall form. The strokes were very similar and patternised but appear random and intricate due to the hand-crafted nature of the stroke movement.
#2

A Random Walk is a mathematical object, used mainly for statistical analysis, simulation and visualisation.
Here, a custom adaptation of this object generates formations that imagine fictional landscapes.
#3

The landscapes are produced through a seamless and intuitive dialogue
between man-made gestures and computational detailing,
imitating the process of the Impressionist painters.
#4

A multi-layered approach reveals or superimposes thin random paths of colour across of the canvas.
After thousands of iterations, parametrical manipulation and artistic intent, each piece emerges as a unique composition.
